Volcanic Legacy The 500 mile journey from Lassen National Park to Crater Lake National Park provides opportunities for adventure, exploration, communion with nature and an appreciation for the culture and history of the region. Rabe Consulting provided project coordination, images, and content for a series of interpretive exhibits along the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. Grant County Weed Book Rabe Consulting was in charge of writing, acquiring photographs and designing a noxious weed field identification handbook for Grant County. Located in eastern Oregon, the county was also interested in educating the community on biological control agents, so a section of the handbook was devoted to the various biological control agents that can be used against noxious weeds found in the county. Klamath County Museum Rabe Consulting was project coordinator for Klamath County Museum’s new World of Trees forestry exhibit.  We oversaw and coordinated the development of the exhibit and provided photographs, expertise and technical support regarding forests and forestry in Klamath County. Click on World of Trees for pictures and more information on this beautiful exhibit.
Klamath County Weed Book 2012 Rabe Consulting provided project management and design for the third edition of the Klamath County Noxious Weed Book. The county weed list is ever-changing, requiring additional species as well as removal of species as managment priorities change and new species are found in Klamath County. Also, taxonomic names change as scientists utilize DNA to reclassify species. The revised edition contains many new species and reflects taxonomic changes that have taken place since the last edition. Please click on the picture to view the finished version of the handbook.
Rabe Consulting worked with the Klamath-Lake Forest Health Partnership to secure funding to install forest education signs along trails in Moore Park, in Klamath Falls. We planned and designed the project, including text, layout design, content and sign placement. We contracted Amy Hartell, a local artist, to add the artistic touch to the signs. This project was the culmination of two years of working together with the Klamath Chapter of the Oregon Native Plant Society. We worked closely with several members of the society (Ron Larson USFWS; Sarah Malaby USFS; Molly Juillerat BLM; Jeanne Skalka USFS) that donated their time to write the text and take photographs. Michael Calonje provided technical layout and design, and donated much of his own time and many of the pictures found in the book. The result was a book with full color photographs of nearly 500 local plant species. Please click on the image to view a full online version of the book.
Rabe Consulting worked with the Klamath-Lake Forest Health Partnership to secure funding for a guide to local forested trails in Klamath County. The guide was so appreciated by the community that we were asked to print a second edition. Christopher Calonje provided technical layout design and photography. Michael Calonje produced the maps and took many of the photographs in the book. The guide includes description of the various forest types and conifers found in the county, driving directions and maps of the trails, and discussions about plants, wildlife, geology and history. Working with the Forest Service and the Klamath Lake Forest Health Partnership, we installed a series of forest health interpretive trail signs along several trails at Lake of the Woods. The culmination of this truly collaborative effort is seen in the photo taken the day the signs were installed.
The trail signs pictured were installed along a trail at the Klamath Outdoor Science School near Fort Klamath. The signs were donated to the school, located in Sun Pass State Forest, by the Klamath-Lake Forest Health Partnership.
Rabe Consulting acquired funds and worked with Klamath County to publish this field identification handbook to special status plants. Christopher Calonje handled technical layout and design as well as text. Michael Calonje took some of the photographs in the handbook, but Christopher gathered and obtained permission to use many of the photos as well. Sarah Malaby of the United States Forest Service reviewed the text, and made suggestions on content and observations. Please click on the image to view a full online version of the guide.
