Rabe Consulting has conducted noxious weed and special status botanical surveys in the BLM's Klamath Resource Area for eleven years. We have surveyed over 100,000 acres in habitats that include conifer forests on the eastern slope of the Cascades, juniper woodlands east of the Cascades and oak woodlands in the Klamath Canyon. All these include surveys of riparian, wetland, and aquatic habitats. Our accomplishments include mapping populations of Asarum wagneri, Limnanthes floccosa ssp. bellingeriana, Silene Nuda ssp. insectivora and Iliamna bakeri. |

Our team of botanists
has worked throughout large areas of the Fremont-Winema National Forest in central and eastern Oregoni, including large tracts of pumice forest (looking for the elusive Botrychium pumicola). Over 14,000 acres have been surveyed using the USDA Forest Service Threatened, Endangered and Sensitive Plant Survey Field Guide. Our botanists found and mapped several populations of Perideridia erythrorhiza. We also surveyed for noxious weeds, and found many previously unmapped populations of Hypericum perforatum. |

Rabe Consulting provides botanical services for timber companies, non-profit organizations, developers and other environmental consulting firms. We are proud of the surveys we have conducted for Fruit Grower Supply Company in northern California for seven years and for the Fort Bidwell Indian Community in northeastern California for four years. We also work locally with Jeld-Wen Timber and Ranches completing botanical surveys for their timber operations. |

Rabe Consulting completetd a botanical survey for the Umpqua National Forest, conducted in order to determine the environmental effects of proposed actions on special status plants, lichens and mosses. Many small, scattered plots that were slated for treatment for deer and elk habitat enhancement, foodplot creation and installation of water guzzlers were examined. A noxious weed survey was conducted as competition was a concern in feed plot areas. |

One of Oregon's rarest plants, Astragalus applegatei, was found in the Klamath Airport in 2007. The USFWS had recommended a survey for the plant be done because potential habitat would be affected by planned wetland draining activities. Bird-plane collisions were a major safety concern. Rabe Consulting worked with a team of surveyors that included BLM and USFWS staff, volunteers, The Nature Conservancy, and the Oregon Natural Heritage Program. Numerous large populations were counted and mapped. |

In cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Rabe Consulting conducted a survey for the endangered Pogogyne floribunda. The habitat of the survey area, which is located on the Modoc Plateau, consists mostly of juniper woodlands with seasonal wetlands occurring throughout the area. Rabe Consulting also conducted wetland delineations on this 7,000 acre project. |

For the past four years, Rabe Consulting has been working closely with the Fort Bidwell Indian Reservation along the eastern slope of the Warner Mountains in Northeastern California. Throughout the reservation, we have conducted pre-harvest T&E plant surveys and mapped populations of the weed Cirsium vulgare after harvest. We conducted ethnobotanical research on the tribe's traditional use of plants for arts and crafts through interviews with tribal elders of the Paiute Tribe, library and museum research, and field investigations. |
