POSITION DESCRIPTION: Field Botanist in the Klamath Basin area. The Field Botanist will be responsible for identifying and mapping noxious weed and sensitive status plant populations on rangeland. Specific tasks will include: visually inspecting ground, identifying vascular plants, filling out forms, marking weed and sensitive status plant populations in field and following a map. A high-school diploma or GED is required, plus relevant college course work in botany, plant identification, range science, or related field. One season fieldwork, plant identification and Global Positioning System (GPS) skills preferred, but not required. Applicants must be willing and able to hike 5-8 miles per day and work outdoors under variable weather conditions. A valid driver’s license is required. Applicants’ may provide their own 4-wheel drive vehicle (with mileage paid) or transportation can be provided. This position is based in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The position begins June 10, 2009 and ends September 15, 2009. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible. Pay will be $12-$14/hour (depending on experience) for 40 hours/week.
